For me, the perception of paying less is what takes me to Wal-Mart. I feel like the noise, the crowd and the hassle are worth it if I am saving dough.
According to this article, though, those savings may be an illusion.
Target this month had lower prices than Wal-Mart for the first time since October, according to research conducted by Bloomberg Industries. The Minneapolis-based chain also led by its widest margin since the monthly study began two years ago. The study examined the gap in average price across a basket of 150 like items at stores within five miles of each other. Bloomberg.com
Apparently, the still-crappy economy has the two giants scrambling for customers, and the competition has heated up. Of course, there are other players, including Kmart and Amazon. Customer loyalty is up for grabs, and we will go wherever the prices lead us.
At any rate, Target is crowing, and Wal-Mart is saying “Yeah, but…” And it seems this whole competition is for bragging rights, since we are talking about a savings of 46 cents per every hundred dollars!
What do you think? Target or Wal-Mart? Do you see a difference? Let us know…and have a great weekend!
Even if Walmart had lower prices, I prefer Target because of the atmosphere. Atmosphere makes all the difference for me.
walmart sells some good products , but for the most part target sells higher quality products at comparable prices . in my opinion target wins that battle hands down .
Walmart lost me regardless of price because you can’t get through the checkout line before your ice cream melts, your meat defrosts, or your milk gets warm. I’ll even do Kmart before Walmart because of this!
Target stores are cleaner and there merchandise is displayed in an inviting way. The class of people is a little better. I’m not a snobby shopper by any means but some of the people at Walmart are just not aware of the people around them. I have been ran into so many times by people not paying attention at Walmart.
I have never been to a Target store because of locality. Walmart is fine if you can accept the occasional lunatic fellow customer. …
I boycott Wal-Mart because their business model is destructive on so many levels, especially to service, and their stores are nasty. Target is a far superior shopping experience.
I dont support any of these kind of businesses, tho i am a business owner my self i understand they have to make money the way they do to survive. I have never been effected by these places except amazon but i dont belive that driving down price to drive out the middle man is good way to do business because its showing to strangle hold small business with out concern witch has had a major effect on our economy as u can tell. Small business that pays tax was a major platform of the united states and individual states making money now like amazon they would prefer to move out of the usa and not pay tax to the states they sell in at all thus sucking that money out of your community!
