Apple vs. Samsung: it was the “patent trial of the century” and, last Friday, Apple won. Samsung has to fork over $1 billion, pending appeal.
The result is extremely complex and is, as of this writing, still being wrangled over in court. But the initial finding appears to be a whole lot of hurt for Samsung and a victory for Apple. The bigger question is, what does this mean for innovation and competition in the tech industry? TechHive.com
But the biggest question is, how does this affect ME? And, I guess, you too?
Some say it will force an industry with too many “me-too” copycats to dig deep and innovate in new and exciting ways, which would be good. Others say that many designers – often just one or two guys working in a garage – will be so afraid of lawsuits that they will choke up. And still others wonder how much change the consumer will accept. Specific example… what if you have to give up your Droid because it’s pinch-and-zoom function is too much like an iPhone?
Many people are seeing this situation as “Intellectual Property vs. Consumer Choice.”
What do you think?
I feel there is to much of pettyness. They all need to get there ego’s check and constrate on making the best and winning are biz. all this I made this and I made that really come on.
Well if in fact Samsung did use Apple technology designs that are patented then they should be fined accordingly though I am not fully sure of the facts concerning this situation.
I am not sure either. there are things like “The graphics look too much alike” and the pinch and zoom are too similar. dont know about actual technology ripoffs.
I think this is simply a case of “He who files first files best”. Because we have certain safeguards in place. ( patents/ copyrights)
I guess we , the consumers finally get to benefit from better technology. Hey maybe we can increase our knowledge of our e-toys
Im not sure i agree with this ruling i do not know the details of the case but having an electronic engineer and tech degree i do know that apple uses its own operating system and samsung uses an operating system designed by android/google the operating system can be coded alike but as for the hardware its self it depends on who thay are buying there cap. or resistive dispays from. I have used both and they are similar but google and apple os are completly diff besides that… Im kind of an apple “hater” even tho im writing this from an ipad lol because of what they refuse to offer the public with out payment They shouldnt nit pic that much no one would ever mistake the 2 products
