Christmas Comes Earlier, and Earlier, and…

Kipper Williams 30 August 2012We were in Kmart over the weekend – that would be September 14th – a time when it is 92 degrees in Charleston, and the streets are still lined with garage sales. And what do we see? The Christmas displays are already out.

It’s a terrible, terrible cliché that “Christmas comes earlier every year!” But, dang! Doesn’t it seem like it?  It’ still regular season baseball. It’s week 2 of the NFL (when the Bengals still have a shot!) I haven’t even raked my first leaf!

So it’s no surprise that the Today show has already done a feature on the topic, appropriately enough, on Kmart.

Kmart is receiving a lot of attention for airing a Christmas ad a full 106 days before the holiday. Many customers feel the retailer is jumping the gun, but business analysts think the ad is necessary for the chain’s layaway program. Today.com

Meanwhile, in Walmart yesterday, I heard the announcement reminding shoppers that “our Christmas layaway is in full effect!”

Watch the video, and tell me…is 106 days too early? Does it bug you, or are you already taking advantage of the savin’s? Let us know over at the MindField Online Facebook page!

  1. I do agree with you about stores rushing past holloween and thanksgiving gosh? what happen when we were kids 36 or 41 years ago? back then the holiday’s went in order and it made for fun, mystery and happiness, but now it’s all about money for the rich to keep getting rich, however i do agree with you once again it’s all about company’s hoodwinking every little penny they can get out of the consumers without giving back.

  2. well I just don’t know what is best, Mother’s need time to put toys
and things on lay way . Some things are gone if you wait until Nov.
It is not like when I was young things and Christmas did’nt show until Nov.
I will say that it is hard to see Christmas out so early..

  3. To enjoy the season it is never too early to plan for this special time of the year. It takes the stress away.

  4. i left a comment before, but my opinion about buying early for xmas..Anything around this time is great, buy for thankgiving or xmas. especially if it is any especial or samples giving away…is better than wait until the last minute, where all are more expensive is better..now is the midle of september…times goes very fast…and is better sooner than too late….the economy is not the best…I wish I have money to spent, but I cant…So..if you can buying things now when they have especial and lay away..do it….so you wont be sorry later that you did`nt take advantage of good prices…So God Bless You..do what you thionk is right and Merry Xmas in September….HO HO HO HO. …Nilda
